Winter is not far away, not so noticeable in South Florida, but we do have our own weather changes, and we have some cooler weather coming this week to kick off that change. During this season, focus on eating soups and stews to keep the cold at bay and eating carbohydrates, fat-rich foods and protein such as beef and lamb, and plenty of fresh vegetables and some fruits high in vitamin C. Stay away from oranges and tangerines though. They are too sweet and create phlegm that can turn into fibroids, tumors and such.

Warm Disease (Wen Bing Xue) becomes more prevalent towards the end of December when it is less humid. Keep rooms well ventilated and slightly humid to avoid this warm disease. Focus on improving the body’s immunity, nourishing the Lung and Kidney. Eating porridge with walnuts and aromatic spices like cardamom, rice with coriander, cumin, and garlic for the lungs and adding more seaweeds, black sesame seeds or tahini, string beans, most any beans, including black, red, and kidney beans, but soaked for 36 hours and pressure cooked, for the kidneys. Sleep early, cover your neck on a windy day and remember to keep hydrated!
