Think of your body as a machine, like your car, the body needs certain things to work properly. If you give the body proper food, it works properly; if not, it will eventually break down.
It is really about making a commitment to yourself and your health. After all, your body is your most important asset. If you don’t have your health, all the money in the world will not make you feel better.
If you make changes slowly, your body will not get shocked. This is where most diets fail. Give up one bad thing a week and add one good thing. In two months, you have made sixteen changes to your diet and your body will accept this without being stressed.
I like to follow what I consider a modified Neanderthal diet. Eating food the way it came to us. Not bagged or processed. Eat meat, chicken, turkey, fish, veggies, fruit, eggs, nuts, beans, seeds, sprouts, and some brown rice, quinoa, and the like. If you can afford to buy organic, and grassfed beef all the better, because of the issues with GMO, hormones and steroids.
Let’s take a look at flour and sugar. It can sit in a jar for years and not go bad, by that I mean get rotten. My theory is that it does not have living energy to nourish your body, which is why we should be eating. I’m not saying we can’t eat for pleasure; the food we eat should taste good. So choose those things that are pleasing to your palate, but also eat consciously knowing you need to nourish your body.
I recently found pasta made from black beans. I have to say it is GOOD, and black foods benefit your kidneys. This way you are not eating flour that is genetically modified which affects your metabolism. Wheat, along with corn and soy, are some of the most genetically modified crops in the US. They wreak havoc on your thyroid and mess up you hormonal system. So it is best to stay away from them, especially soy if you have had breast cancer or have it in your family.
Preservatives and food coloring will also slow your metabolism. Bagged foods are not the best, but if you MUST or occasionally do buy something bagged, read the label. If there are items that you can’t pronounce, they are probably not supposed to be in your body. You wouldn’t put anything but gas in your tank and expect if to work, why would you put this in your body. I know convenience, but is it convenient to be sick and spend time at the doctor and then spend the money you could be saving for retirement, travel or other activities you enjoy on medications that cause other side effects.
Eat protein with every meal as it assists your metabolism and also helps keep inflammation from being a problem. Eat some of the protein first. Vary your diet; don’t eat the same things at the same time of the day. Your body has memory and if you eat the same thing at the same time your body gets into a rut. That’s when you won’t be able to lose weight. Most of us like surprises; the body likes them as well. Snacking between meals can also keep your metabolism cranking. This way you won’t be starving and overeat at mealtime. Green tea can boost your metabolism. I add some vanilla almond milk and a tablespoon of coconut oil or organic butter or ghee. Add the coconut oil, ghee or REAL butter to the hot tea first so it can melt a bit. This is really good fat and will keep you from being hungry and nourish your body and brain with good fat..
Dairy is something you should consider giving up. No other animal allows their young to nurse once they have teeth. Milk is suppose to to be our nourishment until we have teeth. Once we have teeth, we should eat real food. Also, we are the only animal that drinks the milk of another animal. Milk is also FULL of sugar.
Sugar, the culprit in most diets. Most people think their cholesterol problems are caused by fat. Not the truth in most cases, it is sugar, yes sugar. The glycemic index is a way of measuring how much sugar in a particular food. Foods that have a glycemic index over fifty cause inflammation and this is where disease begins.
To keep from eating junk food, always take a snack with you when you leave the house. I like to pack some celery, carrot and beet sticks with a boiled egg and a piece of fruit along with some water.
